Upcoming Volunteer Training dates:
If you are interested in volunteering in a non-direct service capacity (special events, fundraising and administrative tasks), please fill out our application. We have an application and interview screening process for all prospective volunteers. We accept applications year round. Sexual Assault Counselors Peer counselors staff our 24-hour hotline, provide advocacy and accompaniment to survivors at San Francisco General Hospital, in-person counseling sessions and facilitate support groups. Community Initiatives Community Outreach Sexual Assault Counselors table at community events, do street outreach, distribute our materials to community centers, and keep our outreach center up to date.
Volunteers work on SFWAR special events like Walk Against Rape, Artists Against Rape and She Who Laughs Lasts.
Volunteers organize house parties, sidewalk sales and other community fundraisers to support SFWAR.
Volunteers help us with data entry and in keeping our databases up to date.
Volunteers help with mailings we send out a few times a year.
Projects come up throughout the year.
Our volunteers constantly tell us that they grow enormously, both personally and politically, from the volunteer training and find the work to be tremendously important and rewarding.
*SFWAR’s understanding of “woman/women” is based on self-identification. SFWAR supports and prioritizes the leadership of transgender, gender variant, intersex and gender non-conforming people.

"This ain't no charity work
…this is community!"
“We were able to balance being fierce
and strategic. The fierceness was what
made SFWAR special.”
~ SFWAR's first Executive Director
“SFWAR means…the space to fill the void
created by intimate violence in our lives.
Here I have the strength to move the pain
from political, social, and sexual traumas
into a constructive forum for change in
my life and the lives of others.”
