Volunteers are an integral part of the organization and the backbone to many of our services. San Francisco Women Against Rape has an average of 90 active volunteers at any given time. Trainings for volunteers, including rape crisis counseling certification, run approximately 3 times a year.
SFWAR Rape Crisis Counselor trainings last approximately 8 weeks, on Tuesday & Thursday evenings 5:30-9pm and Saturdays 9:30am-5:30pm. We have an application and interview screening process for all prospective volunteers. Please fill out a Volunteer Application if you are interested. We accept applications year round.

"This ain't no charity work
…this is community!"
“We were able to balance being fierce
and strategic. The fierceness was what
made SFWAR special.”
~ SFWAR's first Executive Director
“SFWAR means…the space to fill the void
created by intimate violence in our lives.
Here I have the strength to move the pain
from political, social, and sexual traumas
into a constructive forum for change in
my life and the lives of others.”
